Three people were killed when a fuel tanker exploded in the Ashanti region’s village of Onyinanufu.
The driver of the fuel tanker, his mate, and a two-year-old toddler named Kofi Owusu were among those killed.
According to Graphic Online, the inferno also destroyed nearly half of the Onyinanufu village.
The tragic incident is said to have occurred on Monday afternoon while the fuel tanker was traveling from Kumasi to Tepa.
After exploding, the tanker reportedly veered off the road, destroying several houses and properties in the village.
According to the report, the bodies of the deceased were burned beyond recognition and were later deposited at the Tepa Government Hospital mortuary.
According to the Graphic Online, “the village was a scene of charred carcasses of animals and burnt down houses, with most residents wailing and counting their losses in lives and property.”
“At about 1:30 p.m., the fuel tanker, which was reportedly running at top speed, negotiated a curve and collided with a Ford passenger bus heading towards Kumasi.”
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has stepped in to assist the explosion victims. Nana Agyemang Prempeh, Director-General of NADMO, stated that his organization will provide relief items to victims and find a place for affected people to stay.
