Gyakie, Ghana’s sensational Afrobeat star, has been announced as one of the main performers for MTV Base’s YouTube African Day Concert. The only Ghanaian act on the bill will be the Flip the Music/Sony Music UK act.
The highly anticipated global event will feature Africa’s next global wave of talent at this year’s concert.
Elaine from South Africa, rapper Focalistic, rap duo Blaq Diamond, Nigerian singer Teni, Afrobeat stars Bella Shmurda Omah Lay, Suspect 95 from the Ivory Coast, Kenya’s Bahati, and Tanzania’s Zuchu will also perform at the event.
The virtual concert, hosted by Idris Elba, will be streamed to a global audience on YouTube and broadcast across MTV channels.
Gyakie made her musical debut in 2019. She was previously only known as the daughter of Ghanaian highlife music legend Nana Acheampong, one-half of the famous Lumba Brothers. She witnessed the creation of a successful legacy during her formative years and has now put all that training to use to become a certified superstar today.
Gyakie has released high-impact music in what may appear to be a short period of time, including Love Is Pretty (2019), Never Like This (2019), and Sor Mi Wu feat Bisa Kdei (2020), to name a few. Not only that,
The response to the SEED EP was incredible, and it was also massive. Gyakie rose to continental prominence, amassing 11 million cumulative streams across DSPs to date.
In addition, the focus track “Forever” won a string of awards; it peaked at #1 on the music charts in Nigeria and Ghana, and it continued its takeover assignment across Africa on platforms such as Apple Music & iTunes, Billboard, Shazam, Triller, and YouTube.
