According to the Deputy Director of Marie Stopes, a private healthcare facility in Accra, the rising number of teenage pregnancies is due to young boys and girls having too much sex.
Madam Patricia Antwi Bosiako of Marie Stopes Health Center told TV3 that young girls and boys have sex as young as 15 years old. “According to a 2014 demographic health survey, approximately 11% of women aged 25 to 49 had sex at the age of 15, rising to 44% at the age of 18. So our boys and girls are having more sex now,” she explained.
The deputy director of operations at the health center told TV3’s Berla Mundi that the increase in teenage pregnancy is due to a lack of education. She stated that the number of pregnant teenagers is concerning and a cause for concern about the country’s youth’s future. “The truth is that education is critical, and we must educate our women and girls.”
